Lectins, your Microbiome and your Health

The blood type diet, also known as the Eat Right 4 Your Type diet, is a nutritional plan that suggests people should eat according to their blood type for optimal health. The diet is based on the theory that certain blood types evolved to digest and metabolize certain foods better than others. The core idea behind this is the different blood types process the lectins in food very differently.

Lectins are a diverse group of proteins that are found in many plant-based foods. They are particularly concentrated in legumes (such as beans and lentils), grains, and certain fruits and vegetables. Lectins have been studied for their potential impact on health, and there is some debate surrounding whether they are beneficial or harmful.

On one hand, lectins have been shown to have potential health benefits. They can act as prebiotics, promoting the growth of beneficial bacteria in the gut. Lectins may also have anti-cancer properties, as well as anti-inflammatory effects.

However, there are also concerns about the potential negative impact of lectins on health. One potential issue is that they can bind to the lining of the gut, leading to inflammation and damage to the intestinal wall. This can result in a condition known as leaky gut syndrome, which has been linked to a range of health issues, including autoimmune diseases, food sensitivities, and digestive problems.

Another potential concern with lectins is their ability to interfere with the absorption of certain nutrients. For example, lectins in legumes have been shown to bind to iron and zinc, making these minerals less available for absorption by the body.

Overall, the impact of lectins on health is complex and not fully understood. However, there are steps that individuals can take to minimize any potential negative impact of lectins on their health.

One approach is to avoid or limit consumption of foods that are high in lectins, such as beans, lentils, and grains. However, it’s important to note that these foods are also rich in other nutrients, such as fiber, protein, and vitamins, so it’s important to balance any concerns about lectin intake with the nutritional benefits of these foods. Another option is to soak or sprout high-lectin foods before cooking, as this can help to reduce the lectin content. Soaking and sprouting can break down the lectin proteins and make them more digestible.

Cooking is also an effective way to reduce the lectin content of foods. Lectins are generally heat-sensitive, so cooking foods at high temperatures can break down these proteins and reduce their potential negative impact on health.

Additionally, some research suggests that certain supplements, such as digestive enzymes and probiotics, may help to mitigate any negative effects of lectins on the gut. These supplements can help to break down lectins and improve gut health. Meditation and Brain Health: What the Science Says

Meditation is a practice that has been around for thousands of years and has recently gained popularity due to its potential benefits for mental and physical health. In recent years, there has been an increasing interest in understanding the effect of meditation on the brain. Scientific research has revealed that meditation can lead to changes in brain structure and function, providing evidence for its potential benefits for brain health.

One of the most well-documented effects of meditation on the brain is an increase in grey matter volume. Gray matter is the part of the brain that contains neurons and is responsible for processing information. Studies have shown that individuals who meditate regularly have increased grey matter volume in regions of the brain associated with attention, emotional regulation, and memory.

Meditation has also been found to lead to changes in brain function. Functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) studies have shown that during meditation, the brain exhibits increased activity in the prefrontal cortex, a region associated with attention and decision-making. Additionally, meditation has been found to reduce activity in the default mode network, a network of brain regions involved in mind-wandering and self-referential thought.

Research has also suggested that meditation can have a positive effect on the brain’s white matter, which is responsible for communication between different brain regions. A study published in Frontiers in Psychology found that long-term meditation practice was associated with increased white matter integrity in several brain regions, including the anterior cingulate cortex and the corpus callosum.

The potential benefits of meditation on brain health have led to its use in various clinical settings. For example, mindfulness-based interventions, which incorporate meditation practices, have been shown to be effective in reducing symptoms of anxiety and depression. Additionally, meditation has been used in the treatment of chronic pain and as an adjunct therapy for addiction recovery.

In conclusion, scientific research has provided evidence for the potential benefits of meditation for brain health. Meditation has been found to lead to changes in brain structure and function, including increased grey matter volume, changes in brain function, and improved white matter integrity. These findings suggest that meditation may be a promising tool for improving brain health and treating various mental health conditions.

What is Emotional Healing?

No Comments on What is Emotional Healing?

Emotional healing is the process of acknowledging, allowing, accepting, integrating, and processing painful life experiences and strong emotions. It may involve empathy, self-regulation, self-compassion, self-acceptance, mindfulness, and integration.

Many people have a tendency to want to control the process of emotional healing by minimizing the pain and controlling their emotions, but this can actually inhibit the process of emotional healing.

Emotional healing takes the time that it takes—which may be longer or shorter than you expect or plan on—if you allow it to be fully acknowledged, felt, moved through, and processed.

Emotional healing will look different for everybody, but it may include emotional regulation skills, a feeling of lightness, and stronger relationships as you are able to be more present with yourself and your loved ones.

When Do You Need it?

Everyone will need emotional healing at some point during their lives—we all experience challenges and difficult emotions that need processing.

Some common life stressors after which people may seek emotional healing include:

  • Loss of a loved one
  • Divorce
  • Breakups
  • Job loss
  • Abuse (including emotional, physical, and sexual trauma)
  • Illness

Outside of specific events, it’s also possible to experience intensifying, lingering, and seemingly unshakeable anger, sadness, or anxiety that feels like it is taking over your life. These feelings may cause a functional impairment in your day-to-day life. Emotional healing may look different if symptoms are becoming chronic.

No matter what the trigger for your difficult emotions, emotional healing is possible in all of these scenarios. Anxiety, depression, and other mental health issues can’t wait. At Sundardas Naturopathic Clinic, we’re here for you. We offer in-clinic appointments, as well as mental telehealth, clinical evaluations, and therapy for adults, teens, children, and couples.

The Healing Power of Red Light Therapy

Red Light Therapy has been used successfully by doctors, chiropractors, massage therapists, physical therapists, and health and wellness professionals to help treat a variety of concerns for their patients, including: body MaxLipoing (fat loss), skin rejuvenation, pain management and inflammation reduction.

Thousands of studies on this spectrum of light have been shown to penetrate the skin to activate the production of collagen and elastin, while also stimulating the mitochondria in the cells to produce increased cellular energy (ATP). This is a completely natural process that can create remarkable changes to help the body to heal and energize, while prompting the lymphatic system to more fully detoxify the body.

Body MaxLipo Light Therapy

Red light therapy is a non-invasive technology that enhances healthy cell life and generation. Our flexible pad based system provides a safer, healthier and more enjoyable experience for patients, when compared to other body sculpting machines on the market today. It can be used on most parts of the body, head to the toes, though the eyes should be protected from its ultra bright lights. Goggles are recommended.

Skin Rejuvenation

Red light therapy encourages accelerated healing and skin rejuvenation. Studies indicate that by increasing fibroblast production in the skin, generating collagen and elastin, it produces a supportive and tightening effect that improves the look and feel of the skin.

Red light therapy also helps increase circulation between blood and tissue cells and stimulates a healing response in the skin. Studies show that red light therapy leads to improvement in wound healing, and conditions like rosacea, acne and scarring. With red light treatment, cells become stronger and healthier, are better able to respond to damage, and actively rejuvenate themselves.

Surprising Way your Blood Type can impact your Diet and Gut Health

Did you know that your blood type is a genetic marker which can determine your susceptibility to various health conditions including viral and bacterial infections, blood clotting disorders and others?

Its been long known since the early 1900s that we are different based on blood type. Famous researcher Dr Karl Landsteiner’s discovery answered the question as to why one person would live after a blood transfusion due to illness, while another died when the same blood was given. The science of blood type was born.

The blood type diet, also known as the Eat Right 4 Your Type diet, is a nutritional plan that suggests people should eat according to their blood type for optimal health. The diet is based on the theory that certain blood types evolved to digest and metabolize certain foods better than others.

According to this theory, individuals with blood type O are best suited to a high-protein, low-carbohydrate diet, while those with blood type A should consume a primarily plant-based diet. Blood type B individuals are thought to benefit from a more balanced diet that includes meat, dairy, and produce, while those with blood type AB are advised to eat a combination of the diets recommended for blood types A and B.

One aspect of the blood type diet that has gained attention in recent years is its potential impact on gut health. The gut microbiome is the collection of microorganisms that live in the digestive tract and play a critical role in digestion, immune function, and overall health.

Studies have shown that the composition of the gut microbiome can vary depending on factors such as diet, age, and genetics. Certain foods can promote the growth of beneficial gut bacteria, while others can disrupt the balance of the microbiome and lead to inflammation and other health issues.

Proponents of the blood type diet suggest that eating according to your blood type can support a healthy gut microbiome. For example, individuals with blood type A are advised to avoid meat and dairy products, which can be difficult to digest and may disrupt the balance of the microbiome. Instead, they are encouraged to consume a primarily plant-based diet, which has been shown to promote the growth of beneficial gut bacteria.

Today blood type science is a settled science, and it has confirmed that the gene responsible for this variation in our physiology is due to the gene 9Q34 (or the blood type gene). This gene is responsible for the up-regulation or down-regulation of a particular function in our bodies, for example Blood type 0 have an upregulation of stomach acid making it easy to break down animal protein, while A blood type have a down regulation of the same function making them better on a lower protein diet from less animal products.

I have put at least 10,000 individuals on their blood type diets. Occasionally we may have had to tweak they diets a little to account for their epi-genetic variations. At least 85% of this population expressed satisfaction on these diet plans.  If you struggle with constipation, diarrhoea, acid reflux, heartburn, GERD, indigestion, gas, or bloating, Call us and get support now. 5 Surprising Ways to Increase Neuroplasticity

The brain is one of the most important organs in the body, responsible for controlling everything from movement and sensation to memory and emotion. It’s no surprise that maintaining good brain health is crucial for overall wellbeing, but there are some surprising ways to boost brain health that you may not have considered. Here are five unexpected ways to keep your brain in top condition:

Play video games: While too much screen time can have negative effects, research has shown that playing video games can improve cognitive function, including attention, decision-making, and problem-solving skills. So next time you want to unwind, consider firing up your favourite game.

Learn a new skill: Challenging your brain with a new skill, like learning a language or playing an instrument, can help keep it sharp. It can also improve memory and cognitive function, and may even delay the onset of age-related cognitive decline.

Drink coffee: Coffee lovers, rejoice! Studies have shown that drinking coffee in moderation can improve brain function, including memory, attention, and reaction time. Just be sure to not overdo it, as excessive caffeine can have negative effects.

Practice mindfulness: Mindfulness practices, such as meditation, have been shown to increase brain function in areas related to attention, memory, and emotional regulation. Just a few minutes a day can make a big difference.

Spend time in nature: Spending time in nature has been linked to a variety of health benefits, including improved mood and reduced stress. But did you know that it can also boost brain function? Research has shown that spending time in nature can improve cognitive function, including attention and memory.

In conclusion, taking care of your brain health is essential for overall wellbeing. By incorporating these surprising ways to boost brain health into your routine, you can keep your brain sharp and functioning at its best. If you are struggling with brain fog, memory issues, focus issues, we can help.

Has Your Child Been Diagnosed with AUTISTIC SPECTRUM DISORDER (ASD)?

When I first started practice 35 years ago, I had barely heard and registered that were conditions like ADHD, ADD and Autism. I think I was practicing for almost 3 years before I saw my first real case of learning disability. It was either ADD or ADHD. Since than the numbers have mushroomed. Now I may see 6 to 10 children a month. At least a third will have some kind of learning disability on top of allergy like symptoms. At least one child will be in the Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD).

Nearly 12 million children in the United States of America (or up to 17 percent) suffer from one or more developmental disabilities, including deafness, blindness, epilepsy, speech defects, cerebral palsy, delays in growth and development, behavioral problems, or learning disabilities.

Learning disabilities alone affect 5 to 10 percent of children in public schools, and these numbers appear to be increasing. Prior to 1960’s the reported figure was 0.2 percent. According to the US Census Bureau in 1997, there was a 2.7 percent of children under five who exhibited some form of developmental delay.

Why is there an increase?

Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) conservatively affects 3 to 6 percent of all school children, and the numbers may be considerably higher. The incidence of autism seems to be increasing, though much of this apparent increase may be due to increased reporting.

Are we poisoning our kids?

Exposures to small amounts of substances like lead, mercury, or polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs), which have no discernible impact on adults, can permanently damage the developing brain of a child, if the exposure occurs when a child is most vulnerable (during development in utero up till the first six months of life) .

Early exposures to dioxin or polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs), chemicals from industrial activities that accumulate in dietary fat, damage the developing immune system, making the child more prone to infections. Risks of asthma and high blood pressure are increased by early environmental exposures.

The gut-brain connection starts in the womb

When there is significant damage to the lining of the small intestine (intestinal villi,) multiple systems failure (ie the immune system, the digestive system, the nervous system, the endocrine system) tends to manifest. Perhaps of even greater importance is the effect on intestinal permeability. The intestines are lined with a slimy layer of mucoproteins.

This layer provides lubrication and protection for the intestinal wall as food passes down the alimentary canal. These mucoproteins must be sulphated if they are to be continuous, protective and effective. If they are not sulphated, the proteins clump together and leave exposed intestinal material which makes it more susceptible to toxic food particles. When these get into the tissues, the body’s immune system over-reacts, generating auto-immune conditions.

We believe that these peptides are the agents (bullets) which are directly responsible for the symptoms but there may be other agents, which can have a serious impact upon the total picture. In some cases, wheat (gluten) and dairy (casein) appear to be the sole elements but in other cases it is clear that other factors are involved. The involvement of peptides from gluten and casein is very large and will obscure other factors. It is only after the main sources of the bullets, gluten and casein, are removed from the diet that the smoke will clear sufficiently to allow us to detect other causative elements which are largely of dietary origin.

What can you as a parent do? You can clean up your lifestyle. Eat clean food, clean water and reduce your personal exposure to toxins. I am sorry to say this ladies, you need to stop drinking alcohol and smoking for at least one year before conception. You may also want to clean out all your mercury fillings and reduce the metal and toxic load on your body. Very often I have parents and mothers come in to see me after they have one autistic child to figure out what to do for the next.

COMMON PROBLEMS FACED:

a) Impairment in social interaction or communition
b) Repetitive behaviours or interests
c) Poor social skills – unable to make friends with peers
d) Poor eye contact and unaware of surroundings
e) Unable to control their emotions – temper tantrums
f ) Follows rigid routines – gets upset when there are changes
g) Sensory perception and regulation problems – eg. sensitive to noises, touch and lights

If your child has the above symptoms or is diagnosed as having ASD, our proven interventions can make a significant difference!

Our success lies in: Addressing the root cause with clinically proven methods

  • Brain exercise using neurofeedback
  • Deep cellular detoxification of the cellular matrix and neurotoxins

My Autistic son was diagnosed at 2 and a half years. He has severe intestinal dysbosis. Allergies followed and his behaviour was uncontrollable with tantrums, sound sensitivity, head banging, biting, withdrawn and extremely shy. He had no speech whatsoever, some babbling. He had sleep disruption at night. He went on gluten free, casein free, wheat free diet, egg free and within a few months showed improvement in behaviour when candida was eliminated. There were more improvements especially with sleep and within 3 weeks of taking NDF, he became alert at school, listened to instructions better and on the third week tried to speak to classmates, teacher and even started to sing-along. After a year, his diagnosis has changed to PDD. Speech is still delayed but getting better by the month. His awareness is almost 100%. Socialisation is almost normal. He plays well with other children of the same age.

Are Allergies Ruining Your Child’s Health?

“But what exactly is an allergy? According to Dr Leo Galland, the director of the Foundation for Integrated Medicine in New York, which deals with environmental illness, “allergy” is not a scientific term but means ‘altered reactivity.’

Generally speaking, allergists tend to agree that when IgE is involved, one’s sensitivity to food is called an allergy. If some other immune mechansim is involved, which might be IgG or something else, some call it an allergy and some would not.

The term ‘intolerance’ means that an enzyme is involved and the immune system is not. So, for example, lactose intolerance – the inability to break down lactose sugar, causing bloating, cramping and diarrhea – is an intolerance because the enzyme lactase, which breaks down that sugar, is missing.

Galland suggests that if we use the term “allergy” in the broadest sense, there are a number of non-allergic diseases in which allergy to food may nevertheless play a role. For example, controlled studies have shown that something like 40 to 45 percent of patients with rheumatoid arthritis are affected by specific individual foods.

This is not an IgE type of reaction, so it might not be called a food allergy, but it is an intolerance of the food and it acts to cause inflammation, so it could be called an allergy. Galland believes that IgG may play a role in allergy, but he is one of many who believes that the test for IgG-mediated allergies is not valid.”

Symptoms

Take a long, serious look at your child. Obvious changes sometimes occur in the physical appearance of children and adults who have typical allergies, or food or chemical sensitivities.

Perhaps you recognise a characteristic “spacey” or at times almost “demonic” look in

a child’s eyes when he or she suddenly becomes “impossible.”

These looks are sometimes accompanied by characteristic sounds, such as throat

clearing and clucking. The latter is typical, in particular, of a dairy or milk sensitivity.

Some mothers complain that their children make strange noises at home or at school.

A few whine and say the same phrase over and over.

In addition, children (and adults) can develop a hoarse voice or red ears or cheeks

due to food or chemical exposure.

Other symptoms include slurred or rapid speech.”

Allergies and Hyperactivity, Attention, Mood Swings

“Allergies can play havoc with a child’s ability to benefit from teaching. Some forms of ‘hyperactivity,’ short attention spans and mood swings are caused by allergies and intolerances for certain foods and other environmental factors.”

Handwriting and Drawing Changes

“Handwriting and drawing changes can provide visible clues about what is happening within a child. Sudden changes are often related to specific chemical exposures, to contact with dust, moulds, pollen and to allergenic foods or beverages…

When another child, Robert, was allergy tested for oats and wheat, his handwriting and behaviour changed at the same time.”

Case History:  Allergic rhinitis and ADD (T)

A Caucasian girl of about 7 years came to see us. Could not concentrate in class, compulsive eating leading to obesity.

Testing: Electrodermal screening showed she had Candida overgrowth and allergies.

Treatment: Candida diet and supplements. ADD more manageable. Became a much happier focused child. Lost weight, won an art competition 3 months later and went from the bottom of the class to the middle.
