Are Phobias Running your Life?

No Comments on Are Phobias Running your Life?

It’s easy to make light of phobias—until you or someone you love develops one.

Phobias are a type of anxiety disorders. They are intensely exaggerated and illogical fears most often surrounding situations, objects, or places. They are different than the manageable uneasiness you might typically feel when confronted with a potentially dangerous object or situation. They can lead to breakdowns.

https://blog.drsundardas.com/why-people-experience-emotional-breakdowns/

For example, you may feel uneasy looking down from a high place or have a moment of alarm if you encounter a snake or spider. You may feel a little anxious or have negative thoughts when flying or if you enter an enclosed space like when having an MRI exam. These are not phobias.

https://www.sundardasnaturopathy.com/emotional-healing

A phobia magnifies fear and anxiety to an unmanageable level. People with this type of mental health disorder will make great efforts to avoid the very places, situations, or things that trigger their overwhelming feelings of dread. They will do this even knowing they have the condition.

There are simple phobias and complex phobias (social phobia and agoraphobia)

Simple Phobias:

A specific phobia involves irrational and pronounced fear related to a specific trigger, which is usually an object, place, or situation. Some people have more than one specific phobia. Currently, experts have recognized more than 500 specific phobias.

Complex Phobias:

About 15 million U.S. adults have social phobias (also known as social anxiety disorders) making it the most common type. An individual with this form of the disorder has distress and anxiety about potential rejection, embarrassment, or humiliation in social interactions which can be traumatic. https://www.yourmindstrategy.com/LIVE/events/success-permission/

They worry people are watching and judging them and are extremely self-conscious. They have trouble making friends, maintaining relationships, and with daily functioning.

For example an individual with agoraphobia fears being trapped in a specific place, situation, or space where there’s no escape or escape is difficult or humiliating. It can also occur in places where no help is available if they start to panic.

Common triggers are being in a crowd, elevator, bus, movie theatre, or train. Distressing feelings may also arise standing in a line or being in an open space like a parking lot.

An agoraphobic will actively avoid the triggering place or situation, insist on a companion, or endure magnified anxiety and fear. If agoraphobia goes untreated, it can lead to an individual being unable to leave their home due to their angst.

Even though there are so many, phobias will usually fit into one of several categories involving fear of animals, situations, natural environment, medical procedures, or something else unspecified.

We have been helping individuals with phobias and anxiety disorders for the last thirty years with our emotional healing programs. At one of our phobia treatment programs we had a lady who was terrified of snakes for all her life.

She could not see a picture. movie or even hear the “s” word before losing control. After the fifteen minute treatment session, she kept testing herself by looking for bigger and bigger snakes. She eventually took a photograph with a python around her neck before she was convinced she was cured.

We have treatment protocols that include functional medicine and emotional techniques for phobias and other anxiety disorders.

Is Your Cookware Killing You?

No Comments on Is Your Cookware Killing You?

Is it possible that your cookware is leaching toxins into your family’s food?

Research indicates that the overwhelming majority of American households are unknowingly using pans laced with a highly toxic chemical resin…

https://www.sundardasnaturopathy.com/oligoscan

A large group of scientists have issued warnings and many are calling for Teflon to be banned altogether from cooking products & utensils but, for some reason, that hasn’t happened yet. You see the main ingredients in Teflon non-stick pans are something called polyfluoroalkyl substances or PFA’s for short. You may have read that one type of PFA, called PFOA  (Perfluorooctanoic acid), was banned recently. What you may not know is that the companies involved simply tweaked the molecule and used a new and untested type of PFA.

If you use a non-stick Teflon or T-fal pan to cook with, chances are it is BRIMMING with PFAs. In fact, almost use PFAs in some form. And the international scientific community are becoming increasingly alarmed that these substances are linked to:

• Birth Defects           • Hyperthyroidism              • Autoimmune Diseases

• Testicular & Kidney Cancer     • Obesity

https://blog.drsundardas.com/is-your-fatty-liver-shortening-your-life

The Madrid Statement documents the scientific consensus regarding the persistence and potential for harm of poly- and perfluoroalkyl substances (PFASs), and lays out a roadmap to gather needed information and prevent further harm. It was presented at the 2014 Dioxin symposium in Madrid, Spain and signed by more than 250 scientists from 38 countries.

https://greensciencepolicy.org/our-work/science-policy/madrid-statement/#:~:text=The%20Madrid%20Statement%20documents%20the,information%20and%20prevent%20further%20harm.

Scientist warned against the dangers of asbestos only to be told it was fine (asbestos causes a deadly type of lung cancer called mesothelioma that was incurable). They called for an end to smoking but the tobacco companies paid doctors to say it was actually good for you. Smoking is now proven to be one of the deadliest things you can do. They told the world to stop using CFCs because it was causing irreversible damage to our atmosphere.  We now have a hole in the ozone layer that is roughly the size of Greenland, causing skin cancer rates in Australia to skyrocket.

Teflon discovered by  Dr Roy J. Plunkett (during the second world war) was repurposed for use in the atom bomb because it was so slippery and resistant to corrosion it was perfect for us in the atomic bomb.

Well, shortly after the war chemical giant Dupont realised PFA’s would be a great way to make a non-stick cooking pan. They trademarked PFA’s under the brand names most Americans are now familiar with, Teflon and T-Fal. Teflon was heralded as a miracle material. Easier to clean, less oil was needed and food didn’t stick to the pan. They trademarked PFA’s under the brand names most Americans are now familiar with, Teflon and T-Fal. Sales of Teflon products skyrocketed. Profits boomed. The company started raking in up to $1 billion dollars in profit a year.

Deep inside Dupont factories where Teflon was being made, people started getting sick as they were poisoned by the forever toxic chemicals. The factory workers called it “Teflon Flu” now well documented as “Polymer fume fever”. Horrible, flu-like symptoms that made them sick with chills, fevers and headaches for days. Just a few whiffs of the toxic fumes coming off the production line would be enough to damage their liver, brain and affect their neuroplasticity.

PFA’s give off toxic fumes when heated above 300 °C that are harmful to humans, leading to the horrible symptoms listed above. Flu like symptoms don’t sound so bad until you realise, that’s only because of how big humans are.  Birds and smaller animals exposed to it, drop dead in minutes. Stop using all black, non-stick cookware.

Yes there is very strong evidence that the very thing you cook your food could be

poisoning you, causing cancerous growths throughout your body, driving your immune system to turn on itself and causing your metabolism to slow to a crawl meaning no matter what you eat there’s no chance of losing weight.

How do toxins poison your brain and contribute to mental illness?

@ Reduce cerebral blood flow: Blood flow is critical for optimal brain function. Anything that restricts blood flow harms the brain and can negatively impact mental wellness.

On SPECT scans, decreased blood flow has been associated with clinical depression, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, ADD/ADHD, and more. Research shows that low blood flow is the #1 brain-imaging predictor that a person will develop Alzheimer’s disease.

@ Disrupt the endocrine system: Toxins interfere with hormone production, which can cause serious imbalances. Having low or high levels of hormones—such as thyroid, estrogen, testosterone, or cortisol—can wreak havoc on your brain and body. For example, when hormones are out of whack, it raises the risk of mental health symptoms, such as depression, anxiety, mood swings, brain fog, and panic attacks.

@ Impair the immune system: Your body’s immune system performs two major functions.

When toxins impair immune system function, it increases your risk of physical conditions, such as autoimmune disorders and cancer. At the same time, it raises the likelihood of developing as mental health issues like anxiety disorders, depression, and even psychosis.

@ Disrupt the gut microbiome: Poor gastrointestinal health can lead to a condition called leaky gut. This occurs when the gut lining becomes permeable, allowing toxins to enter the bloodstream.

Leaky gut has been associated with a wide range of cognitive issues and mental health problems, such as mood and anxiety disorders, ADD/ADHD, Parkinson’s disease, and Alzheimer’s disease.

@ Increase the risk of diabesity: Having high blood sugar levels and/or being obese or overweight is known as diabesity. As toxic load rises, so does the risk for this common combination of conditions.

Toxins are also called diabesogens and obesogens because they contribute to both diabetes and obesity. Having one or both of these medical conditions takes a major toll on brain function and mental health.

Obesity is harmful to brain and psychological health and has been associated with increased risk of depression, panic disorder, agoraphobia (fear of going out), bipolar disorder, and substance use disorders.

High blood sugar levels have been linked to shrinkage of the hippocampus, a brain region involved in mood, memory, and learning. Rates of depression and anxiety are two to three times higher in individuals who have Type 2 diabetes compared to the general population. Diabetes is also associated with a higher risk of Alzheimer’s disease.

@ Damage DNA: This can accelerate brain aging and lead to problems with mood, anxiety, irritability, temper, and irrational behavior, as well as memory.

Research shows that many environmental toxins, including herbicides and sodium benzoate, may damage DNA. A 2023 study found that sucralose-6-acetate, a chemical found in sucralose, may also harm DNA.

@ Impair enzyme systems: This disrupts many biological processes, including the ability to produce energy and fight free radicals.

@ Harm detoxification organs: Your body’s detoxification system includes your liver, gut, kidneys, and skin. These organs need to be healthy to do their job.

For example, your liver filters blood to identify and hold toxins. Its enzyme systems break down the toxins, and the liver releases bile to flush them out. Your liver has finite toxin-processing capacity, which means it is highly vulnerable to toxic overload.

Your kidneys filter your blood an astounding 60 times per day. However, kidney function decreases with age by 50 percent from age 20 to 85, so they need your support!

Excessive exposure to toxins can impact the digestive tract, liver, kidneys, and brain. This damage reduces the body’s detoxification system’s ability to do its job, creating an even greater buildup of toxins.

@ Alter gene expression: In some cases, this may turn on harmful gene variants and/or turn off beneficial ones.

@ Damage cell membranes: This can also disrupt communication between brain cells.

Does Your Sleep Refresh You?

No Comments on Does Your Sleep Refresh You?

Singaporeans are the third most sleep-starved population, after Tokyo and Seoul, in a 2014 survey of 43 cities. It is progressively getting worse with the proliferation of gadgets and bad habits. Disrupted sleep is very dangerous. Whether it’s a tough time with worry and stress, workload – or even good things, like celebrations – not falling into a deep sleep causes more than just a tired afternoon the next day.

Sleep disruption is associated with increased sympathetic nervous system activity and causes pro-inflammatory responses. https://blog.drsundardas.com/is-your-nervous-system-running-you-down/

Even short-term consequences of sleep disruption can include increased stress response, somatic pain, reduced quality of life, emotional distress and mood disorders, and cognitive, memory and performance deficits and breakdowns.https://blog.drsundardas.com/is-your-nervous-system-running-you-down/

Sleep rejuvenates all the cells in your body, gives brain cells a chance to repair themselves, helps wash away toxins that build up during the day, and activates neuronal connections that might otherwise deteriorate due to inactivity leading to negative neuroplasticity. (https://www.sundardasnaturopathy.com/neuroplasticity)

Skimping on sleep can affect your health in more ways than you might imagine. When you don’t get enough sleep, you have overall decreased blood flow to your brain, which disrupts thinking, memory, and concentration.

Strategies for Improving Your Sleep: Remember that we are all unique individuals and what works for one person may not work for another. Keep trying new techniques until you find something that works.

Maintain a regular sleep schedule.

Your bedroom should be comfortable.

Create a soothing night time routine.

Use sound therapy.

Increase serotonin: Drink a mixture of warm milk, a teaspoon of vanilla.

Technology-free bedroom: Avoid blue light radiation before bed.

Avoid a full stomach: Don’t eat for at least two to three hours before going to bed.

Regular exercise: However, don’t do it within four hours of the time you go to sleep as vigorous exercise late in the evening may energize you and keep you awake.

Watch out for stimulants:  No caffeinated beverages and chocolate, nicotine, and alcohol in the late afternoon or evening.

Move the clock so you can’t see it: If you wake up in the middle of the night, refrain from looking at the clock.

Use the bed only for sleep or sexual activity: Sexual activity releases many natural hormones, releases muscle tension, and boosts a sense of well-being.

Don’t toss and turn.

SUCCESS MASTERY Neuroscience of Achievement

We just completed the 16th run of my premier programme, Success Mastery.

We invited a select group of 21 individuals to a 4 day island retreat.

In my experience of working with 15,000 individuals over 35 years, we identified core traits of high-performance individuals. They could be C-suite executives, CEOs and ultrahigh net worth individuals. The most common traits they all had were

  1. They worked on their mindset and emotional healing.
  2. They developed sustainable lifestyles and resilience.
  3. They were committed to lifelong learning, growth and neuroplasticity.
  4. They were committed to doing what it took to do all the above on a daily basis.

So based on our research, we developed a model based on Neuroscience, Biochemical and Emotional Epigenetics, Family Therapy and Systems Approach. The most common issues our clients faced were:

a) Dysfunctional family scripts due to neglect and trauma that limited them physically, emotionally or financially. This could lead to breakdowns, relationship issues or financial crisis.

b) Not recognizing how the brain changes in its patterns of achievement with ageing.

c) External triggers activating their negative emotional and biochemical epigenetics.

d) Not having a sustainable mind body sequence of habits.

e) Inadequate or poor planning due to not taking above factors into consideration.

We had one CEO, Saran who had started working with me almost 15 years ago. Saran had gone to 6 doctors in Malaysia, 15 years ago and asked them, “I am currently not sick. Can you keep me well?”.

Saran said they had looked at him as if he was deranged. Saran was sharing with me how appreciative he was for the processes he had been doing with me. Saran had been noticing quite a few of his fellow CEOs, crashing, collapsing and dying.

Their companies which had been valued in the millions, were sold for the scrap metal value. Saran in contrast remains, well and healthy and has gone on to start even more companies. Saran’s companies are currently valued at eight figures and growing.

Another CEO of a start-up who flew in from South Africa, discovered during the program why the goals she had set did not materialize due to factors a) to e).

Many individuals wax lyrical about mindset, sustainable lifestyles, resilience, lifelong learning and commitment. The graduates of Success Mastery actually learn how to incorporate all this into 15- minute chunks into their day. Otherwise, nothing really takes. Its just hot air and platitudes.

I am delighted to congratulate those who attended the programme and look forward to seeing their future progress in life.

Yours in Health,

Dr Sundardas D Annamalay

Your Secret Enemy that Undermines your Life

Did you know that recent research published by Harvard Medical School showed that “bottling up” trauma from your past – no matter how mild or seemingly insignificant – is linked to chronic health conditions later in life?

The list of common symptoms associated with these conditions is dizzying to say the least – it includes things like:

  • Anxiety
  • Depression
  • Chronic fatigue
  • Sleep problems
  • Autoimmune diseases
  • Lack of focus/concentration
  • Cardiovascular disease
  • Cancer
  • Obesity
  • Fatigue
  • Hair loss

And much more…

The really interesting thing about trauma is the ways it affects different people. Two people can go through the exact same experience but feel something completely different.

What’s most concerning though is that lots of people don’t even realize they’ve stored these things away inside of them – and left unaddressed, it can make a person sick!

Even worse, traumatic experience tend to bioaccumulate in the body – so the risk for psychological & physical health problems increases dramatically the more traumatic events you’ve experienced. https://www.yourmindstrategy.com/LIVE/events/success-permission/)

If any of this sounds familiar to you, then it’s time to learn about one of the most overlooked contributors to chronic illness…  TRAUMA

Worldwide, mental health issues have nearly tripled in the past few years.

Many of us are underliving our potential because of the retained effects of early life trauma, whether mental, emotional or physical which often leads to negative thoughts and negative neuroplasticity. (https://www.sundardasnaturopathy.com/neuroplasticity)

This shows itself most obviously as chronic physical illness which prevents us from freely exercising choices, but more insidiously in sub-clinical dysfunctional patterns such as poor immunity, lack of energy, lack of confidence, anxiety and fearfulness.

Illness, rather than being viewed entirely negatively, can become a creative tool for sorting out our lives and redesigning our futures. To achieve this, we need an approach which enables us to listen to and learn from both mind and body. Most healthcare approaches separate mind and body – either physical therapy or psychotherapy, the body hospital or the mind hospital.

We know however that a radical change in physical health, whether for the better or the worse, is invariably accompanied by profound mental change. We also know from studies of behaviour and body language that the reverse is equally true – a major change in mental perspective is always accompanied by a change in body activity, posture and movement.

Which is why we want to offer you solutions because we know how debilitating, frustrating, and lonely it can feel when you’re struggling with Trauma

The basis of SomatoEmotional Release® (SER) and other somatic therapies that facilitate emotional and physical healing is that people sometimes retain an emotional experience physically, leading to loss of flexibility in an organ and/or local connective tissue with resultant impairment of function and possible pathology. Working hands-on – sometimes assisted by dialogue, sometimes not – it is often possible to facilitate the release of the affected tissue concurrently with resolution of the associated emotional issue. We have 30 years of experience of helping people process trauma and trauma related illnesses. https://www.sundardasnaturopathy.com/emotional-healing

Is toxic mould slowly destroying your family’s health?

Are you finding yourself wondering why you continue to be sick despite all your efforts to improve your health and wellness? The answer to this common question may lie in an often overlooked but pervasive health threat: mould toxicity. https://blog.drsundardas.com/allergic-bronchopulmonary-aspergillosis-quote/

National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences: Mold

In modern construction, materials such as drywall and wallpaper create the perfect environment for mould growth. This results in the release of mycotoxins, which can have severe consequences on overall health by interfering with the body’s hormonal balance.

Mould toxicity manifests in a wide range of symptoms, making it challenging to diagnose. From anxiety and depression to joint pain and skin irritation, the effects of mould exposure can be debilitating. It’s estimated that 1 in 4 individuals are hypersensitive to mould, further emphasizing the importance of awareness and prevention. Asia hot, humid and damp climate aggravates this issue.

Recently, one of my clients encountered first-hand the insidious nature of mould toxicity within her home. A seemingly minor issue with her HVAC system led to a significant mould infestation, resulting in various health concerns for herself and her family.

Her children kept experiencing persistent respiratory and other health issues for apparently no reason. When we tested them, we identified mould as the culprit. This experience highlighted the importance of vigilance and prompt action when it comes to addressing mould issues. https://www.sundardasnaturopathy.com/bioresonancebicom

It’s crucial to educate yourself about the dangers of mould toxicity. Here are some key steps to consider:

  1. Awareness: Be vigilant for symptoms of mould toxicity in yourself and your clients, especially if they describe unexplained health issues.
  2. Prevention: Take proactive measures to prevent mould growth, such as maintaining indoor humidity levels below 50% and addressing any leaks or water damage promptly.
  3. Detection: Consider testing for mould in environments where individuals may be at risk, such as homes, offices, and healthcare facilities.
  4. Treatment: In cases of mould exposure, prompt action is essential. This may include remediation efforts to remove mould and mycotoxins from the environment, as well as supportive therapies to address symptoms and promote healing. https://www.sundardasnaturopathy.com/homoeopathy

Mould toxicity is a pervasive yet often overlooked health concern. By raising awareness and taking proactive measures, we can help mitigate the risks associated with mould exposure and ensure the well-being of ourselves and our clients.

Thank you for your attention to this important matter. Together, we can work towards creating healthier environments for all.

Are You Poisoning Your Brain?

No Comments on Are You Poisoning Your Brain?

Did you know that by simply breathing, using a common skin lotion, or sleeping on a certain type of mattress you might be harming your brain? The 3-pound supercomputer between your ears is the most metabolically active organ in your body. As such, it is vulnerable to damage from toxins.

Toxins are one of the major causes of psychiatric issues, but traditional psychiatrists almost completely ignore them. In part, that’s because they rarely look at the organ they treat—the brain.

Toxins are one of the major causes of psychiatric issues, but traditional psychiatrists almost completely ignore them. In part, that’s because they rarely look at the organ they treat—the brain.

The brain-imaging work with SPECT reveals that toxic brain patterns are common in people with addictions to alcohol or drugs. Surprisingly, these same patterns can also be seen in people who aren’t substance abusers. Why do their brains look so bad?

How toxins take a toll on mental health

Research shows that environmental toxins—such as toxic mould, inhalants, and pollution—are often to blame for unhealthy brain function.

Environmental toxins impact nearly every aspect of your body and can damage the brain, leading to a variety of physical and mental health symptoms. From a psychiatric standpoint, exposure to toxins can increase the risk of:

On the physical side, issues can include:

  • Autoimmune diseases
  • Diabetes
  • Cancer
  • Fatigue
  • Numbness
  • Tingling
  • Tremors
  • Allergies
  • Abdominal pain
  • Diarrhea
  • Smelly stools
  • Bad breath
  • Weight issues
  • Skin rashes
  • Sweats

Our biological systems get rid of toxins (through the gut, liver, kidneys, and skin), but when those natural detoxification processes are overwhelmed, it can cause problems in the brain.

Reducing or eliminating your exposure to the toxins is the first step to healing your brain and regaining control of your life. To perform a brain detox, following these steps:

  • Clear out any toxin-laden household cleaning products.
  • Toss out personal care products that contain toxins.
  • Stop buying foods that filled with artificial chemicals.
  • Limit your intake of alcohol.
  • Avoid marijuana and other drugs.

By decreasing your exposure to toxins, you can help restore your brain function and may reduce mental health symptoms.

Meditation has many benefits, including lowering stress, improving immune function, and slowing mental aging. This age-old practice has become one of the most popular ways to relieve stress among people of all walks of life. Meditation can take many forms and can be combined with many spiritual practices. It can also be used in several important ways

  • It can be a part of your daily routine and help you build resilience to stress.
  • It can be a technique to get centred when you’re thrown off by emotional stress. ?
  • It can be a quick-fix stress reliever to help you reverse your body’s stress response and physically relax.

Meditation can :

  • Reduce the symptoms of anxiety: Meditation can help to reduce the symptoms of anxiety, including racing thoughts, feelings of panic, and physical tension.
  • Increases mindfulness: By practicing mindfulness meditation, you can learn to observe your thoughts and feelings without getting caught up in them. This can help you to feel more in control and less overwhelmed.
  • Improve sleep: Anxiety can make it difficult to sleep, but meditation has been shown to improve sleep to help you feel more rested.
  • Enhance relaxation: When you meditate, your body releases feel-good hormones like serotonin and dopamine, which can help you to feel more relaxed and calm.
  • Boost resilience: Regular meditation practice can help you to build resilience and cope better with the ups and downs of life.

Meditation has also been documented to increase neuroplasticity.

Neuroplasticity, also known as neural plasticity, or brain plasticity, is the ability of neural networks in the brain to change through growth and reorganization. It is when the brain is rewired to function in some way that differs from how it previously functioned.

Your physical and emotional stress can melt away by learning to calm your body and mind. This leaves you feeling better, refreshed, and ready to face the challenges of your day with a healthy attitude. With regular practice over weeks or months, you can experience even greater benefits.
